Starting this afternoon Spokane will be once again graced by amazing athletes competing on an international level but VIP Production Northwest started working on this event in February.
Working with Bill Brennan, arena lighting extraordinaire based in Florida, V.I.P. provided equipment, crew, operators and local support to ensure that the lighting was balanced for the broadcast portions and exciting for the exhibition show. The equipment included 140 feet of truss, 24 Martin MAC 2000, nine 1-ton chain motors, our Road Hog 3 control console and endless feet of cable. One of the design challenges related to maintaining clear site lines for the cameras. All of the power and control cables had to be pulled up into the catwalks from the flown truss sections.
We would like to give a shout out to Local 93 stagehands union for providing top notch hands to make the in and setup fast and flawless. Also we would like to thank the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena tech crew for providing information and support for this first time event. Finally we want to recognize Ezra Gerlitz – Lead/Lighting operator, Kevin Ford – Rigging Lead and Troy Stratton – assistant lead for your hard work and direction to ensure a functional and clean rig. Well done all.
